Corrosion

IPU Technology Development offers consultancy, development and optimisation assistance within the fields of corrosion technology, corrosion mitigation and corrosion protection.

 

IPU can advise on material selection, correct design and construction and possible protection measures for different corrosive environments. Among these, corrosion in aqueous environments, atmospheric corrosion, microbiological induced corrosion (MIC), concrete rebar corrosion, corrosion in soil, corrosion in electronics, corrosion in oil and gas production and high temperature corrosion.

 

Test specimens, prototypes and design solutions utilising correct material selection and or surface treatment can in most cases be manufactured in house in IPU’s own workshop and surface treatment laboratory, in this way optimising the entire test cycle.

 

IPU can perform a variety of corrosion tests and analyses, for example:

  • Different types of salt spray tests
  • SO2 exposure tests
  • Various electrochemical tests and analyses, including several newly developed micro electrochemical techniques for corrosion analysis of electronics, metal surfaces and weldings.
  • Various techniques for surface and material characterization, with regards to structure and composition to identify corrosion mechanisms and causes.
  • Testing of electronic components and assemblies in climate chamber.

IPU collaborates with DTU Systems Biology and DTU Environment in order to unite relevant fields of research in the interdisciplinary field of microbiological induced corrosion.

 

Finally, IPU can assist in damage inspection and root cause investigation and determination, and additional follow up consultancy to insure that future damage do not occur.
