Electrochemical deposition – electroplating
IPU has experience in surface treatment of metals, polymers (incl. metallization), ceramics and semiconductors (silicon). Also “pre-treatments”, e.g. electropolishing of stainless steel as well as a number of pickling and etching processes.
IPU has considerable experience in electrochemical deposition (electroplating) and offers deposition of several pure metals from more than 30 different electrolytes as well as a number of binary alloys – a total of approximately 60 operational processes. In addition, we do conversion coatings; e.g. zinc passivation or aluminium anodizing.
Below are examples of electroplating processes for specific applications:
- Decorative coatings – anodizing of titanium or blackening
- Friction reduction – deposition of PTFE (Teflon™) particles in a matrix of electroless nickel
- Corrosion protection – zinc or nickel plating of items with a complex geometry as well as environmentally friendly (chrome-free) passivation
- Hygienic surfaces – thin coatings which either kill bacteria or reduce bacterial activity
- Selective metallization – complete or partial metallization of a number of different polymers (ABS, PC, POM, PEI, LCP) and other non-conducting materials (glass, silicon, piezoceramic materials, etc.)
- Precious metal deposition – e.g. gold, palladium, rhodium, platinum, ruthenium and silver
