RAPID PROTOTYPING AND SMALL BATCHES
Increasing demands for flexible and fast manufacturing of prototypes in metal sheets have lead to the development of a new process; the ”SPIF” (Single Point Incremental Forming).
The process is used to manufacture complicated geometries in a single set-up, which usually requires multiple drawings, assemblies, bendings etc.
A sheet is clamped inside the rim and is drawn using a rotating pin tool, which is path controlled on a CNC machine (milling machine, turning lathe can be used, or a dedicated SPIF machine).
IPU-Manufacturing has the necessary knowledge and are able to assist in testing, instruction and manufacturing of components.
Benefits from using this process are:
-
Low initial costs, no forming tools
-
A short lead time
-
CAD Drawing ->CAM ->CNC -> Finished product
-
Flexible, forming without tools
-
The possibility for larger deformations than with conventional deep drawing
-
Complex geometries
