Mærsk Medical manufactures different types of medico-technical equipment. Their product range includes a suction catheter, of which IPU has designed the operating unit, which is the valve used by the nurse to control secretion collection.

What is important about this design is that it facilitates safe and gentle operator control, that the product instils safety, and that it comes across as an agreeable product in the emotionally uncomfortable situations in which it is often used.

The fact that other product components had already been developed and matured for production was taken into account in the design process.
