Design for Manufacture (DFM)
The purpose of the course is to provide participants with approaches and tools that enable them to develop products with a focus on their overall qualities in terms of the manufacturing process.
The following topics are covered:
- DFM approach
- Creating DFM ideas
- Four levels of approach: company, product range, structure and component
- DFM concepts
- Assessing manufacturing qualities
- Assessing the total cost of the product
- Implementing DFM
The course is intended for managers and development, design and production professionals in the mechanical and mechatronical industries.
The duration of the course is usually one day, and it is adapted to the individual company.
The course is taught as a classroom course, and is advantageously supplemented with assignments in which techniques are tested and discussed. Elements from participants’ development projects can be included in the assignments and discussions.
The teaching staff is made up of IPU and MEK staff with long-running experience in product development and the “Design for Assembly” and “Design for Manufacture” concepts in particular.
The course is based on the pamphlet “Design For Manufacture DFM guide for improving the manufacturability of industrial products", which is handed out at the beginning of the course.
