Methods of ideas and chosen solutions

The purpose of the course is to offer insight into how alternative solutions are created and appraised in a specific project situation.

Systematic and creative methods of ideas are practised for identifying solutions for technical problems. Also, we work on criterion functions and methods for assessment of solutions. This enables the participants to be able to choose the best techniques in specific development and design tasks. The following methods are covered:

Methods of ideas:

  • Brainstorming, the Gordon Method and the Checklist Method
  • Synetics and Bionic
  • Systematic division
  • Morphologies
  • Functional-and-Means-Tree
  • Design catalogues

Criterion functions

Methods of appraisal:

  • Comparison in groups and in pairs
  • Comparison in pairs 
  • Low-priority qualities
  • Low-priority qualities
  • High-priority qualities

The course is intended for development, design and production professionals in the mechanical and mechatronical industries.

The course is a standard course adapted to the individual company. The duration of the course is usually two to three days.

The teaching staff is made up of IPU and MEK staff with several years of experience in development and design projects.
