»Growth hormone must be kept at a temperature between 2°C and 8°C at all times. People who depend on a daily injection with growth hormone find this a problem, for example if they go travelling.

Novo Nordisk wanted to offer users of Nordiject^® a solution to this problem by developing a cooling bag which at the same time could function as a case for Nordiject^®, needles, and extra medicine.

Novo Nordisk chose to set up a project group involving IPU, Novo Nordisk A/S, and an external designer. IPU's task was to perform calculations on the refrigeration system (carried out in collaboration with Professor P. Worsøe-Schmidt of the Technical University of Denmark), to perform refrigeration tests on prototypes and finished items, and to conduct the engineering design of the cooling bag and the icepack.

The result is a product which satisfies the strict requirements for refrigeration, and a concept which can easily be adjusted to suit future models of Nordiject^® - injection systems.«
