The law requires that petrol pumps be fitted with a gas recirculation system. The system moves the gas that is being ousted during tanking back to the tanks in the tank system.

Recently, the law has become more stringent, requiring that the system functionality be subjected to continuous control. 

Malte VRM-monitorer is in charge of this monitoring task.

A specially designed gas flow sensor has been fitted in the return pipe of the gas recirculation system. The electronic monitoring system is placed inside the pump. During pumping, the amount of petrol pumped is compared to the gas flow in the recirculation system. If these do not match, a procedure kicks in and a malfunction alarm goes off. Subsequently, and within a set time limit as stipulated by law, the malfunctioning petrol pump disconnects.

The system is sold to most of the large European petrol companies.
