»GN Elmi decided to develop a new generation of portable test equipment for making measurements on digital telephone exchanges. With its logical user interface, the apparatus is strongly user-oriented. Via a front panel and a menu-based display, the technician can easily handle the advanced measuring functions, which are controlled by custom designed hardware and software.

It was a requirement for the project that the development time should be short, and this led us to delegate some of the mechanical development tasks to IPU. In close collaboration with GN Elmi and an external designer, IPU took part in the development and the production of prototypes of the printer housing, connectors for measurement points, the internal chassis, and the handle with its shoulder strap. Much emphasis has been placed on the EMC screening in all parts of the apparatus, which means that the design of the external connector plates was subject to strict requirements.

IPU's participation in the project has contributed to its being completed to the required deadline. We have had excellent experience with the close collaboration and IPU's ability rapidly to familiarise themselves with the project.«
