A large number of products that were previously mechanical, are now mechatronical, as their functionality is based on the interface between mechanics, electronics and software. 

The use of multiple technologies allows for synergies to occur. The potential is added functionality, economic optimisation and increased differentiation from competing products.

Mechatronical products are often developed in project groups, which include non-technician members as well, e.g. doctors.
