IPU has more than 20 years of experience in assembling work. Over the years, IPU has developed assembly equipment and worked on product design to optimise the assembly process. This work has resulted in numerous books, notes, courses etc. relevant to the topic.

IPU's approach to assembling is to focus initially on the configuration of the product before initiating a possible automation of the assembly.

Design for Assembly is not only relevant in automation projects. IPU has learned that manual or mechanised assembly can also be significantly simplified through product optimisation.

As with DFM, DFA procedures are carried out at four levels: the company level, family level, structural level and component level. The structural level is particularly in focus with assembly, due to the close interaction between the product’s structure and its assembly qualities.
