The purpose of this DFM project was to determine the mechanical layout of the ABL 700 machine used for blood analysis.

The principal functions of the product were identified and alternative solutions for each of the principal functions were sought. Based on an assessment of the options, appropriate design principles were then selected for each of the sub-systems in the machine.

At the same time, alternative structures for the chassis were developed.

This work resulted in a line of alternative concepts for the configuration of the machine. These alternatives could then be evaluated and the one most suitable was then selected based on set criteria. 

The DFM approach constituted the point of departure for the project.
