This project was based on the idea to design washing machines and tumble dryers with the greatest amount of reuse of parts between the two product types.

The analytical phase revealed that it was in fact possible to reuse all the vital parts from the washing machine in the tumble dryer. For instance, the washing drum was able to from the basis for the drying drum in the tumble drier, and the suspension in the washing machine could be reused by replacing the shock absorbers with rigid rods.

At the same time, the assembly of the machines could be significantly simplified by separating the functions “chassis production” from “jacket production”.

The result was a simplified design and a significant reduction in the number of different parts used.
