Environmental Product Declarations are used to communicate the environmental qualities of products and services “using numbers and words”. Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are covered by the international standard ISO 14025, and a Danish EPD system is currently being developed assisted by IPU (MVD.dk)

EPDs are internationally applicable; they provide a structured overview and have undergone inspection by an independent third party, which ensures that the information is correct. Because EPDs are standardised, they can be directly compared with the environmental qualities of competing products.
