Bang & Olufsen wanted to develop a CD loader for their BeoSound 1 system.

The device was to transport a CD from a vertical operating position to a horizontal playback position inside the appliance. Aside from requirements on different positions in this movement, Bang & Olufsen requested that the mechanism be noiseless and gave the impression of moving effortlessly without any sudden jerks and jumps.

Also, the device had to be easy to manufacture and be sturdy and reliable.

IPU participated in the project on developing the device for the CD loader. The development work was a collaborative effort between B&O and IPU, where knowledge and experience from B&O constituted the driving force in evaluating and selecting the devices.
