Introducing the Digital Twins Technology Takes Time
Using digital models when developing new products or processes can give a lot of benefits. Through simulations it is straightforward to get a better understanding of system behavior and dynamics, and thereby optimize design and performance. Similarly, simulations can help lower the development time by replacing expensive and time consuming tests, or give an indication of which tests should be performed.
However, lack of standards, norms and tools to easily develop and use digital twins across physical domains, makes the technology difficult to introduce in the industry. Furthermore, introducing digital models typically requires adjustments of workflow and processes within a company to be centered around models and simulations. This transition takes time as new competences are needed and the companies must build up their own experiences.
We have written an article for the media IndustryTech under “Ingeniøren” about the benefits and challenges of the digital twin technology. For those of you without a login, feel free to download the article as a pdf here.
