Pack Calculation Pro
Latest version
v5.5.6 (Sep 4th, 2024). See below for instructions how to obtain latest version, and how to obtain licenses.
Introduction
Whether you are retrofitting an existing refrigeration or heating system, or creating a new system from scratch, Pack Calculation Pro can provide a thorough comparison of different solutions.
Pack Calculation Pro is designed to compare different system designs, control strategies and refrigerants for your refrigeration or heat pump project, by calculating yearly energy consumption, as well as Life Cycle Costing (LCC) and Total Equivalent Warming Impact (TEWI).
We kick-start your calculations by reducing the amount of data you should provide, among others by using load profiles and weather data to calculate the performance. We select well-proven default values for most coefficients and parameters, though you can always customize the preferences, and import your own load profile data, to meet your specific needs.
Our comprehensive database of real compressors, maintained in cooperation with OEMs, makes it possible to compare performance of different products using a single definition for the operating conditions.

v5.5.6 (September 4th, 2024):
- Rename backup heater to auxiliary heater
- Auxiliary heater changeover temperature vs. parallel operation
- Stability improvement for solving for 100% fan capacity in some cases
v5.5.5 (August 21st, 2024):
- Fix display of rating points results for single-stage systems
- Improve loading/saving of settings for backup heater
- Additional calculation results for heat pumps with/without auxiliary boiler
v5.5.4 (June 12th, 2024):
- Fixes and improvements to file loading/saving algorithm for project and profile data.
- Replaces v5.5.2, which was not functional for new installations
v5.5 (June 3rd, 2024):
This version introduces lots of new functionality and data:
- Cycle designs:
- Heat pumps:
- One-stage transcritical heat pump model, with water-cooled gas cooler.
- Auxiliary boiler for heat pumps, or standalone boiler system / district heating connection.
- Refrigeration: Two-stage transcritical with open intercooler, with/without parallel compression.
- Heat pumps:
- Components:
- Condenser models: Improved model for hybrid cooler / adiabatic gas cooler.
- Pre-release: Water-cooled evaporator, allowing for custom source temperature profile.
- Full update of Bitzer product catalogue.
- Full update of Bock product catalogue.
- Dorin: Larger CD600 models, and LSPM motor models.
- Frascold: Full update of hydrocarbon compressor data. SRC, CX, FVR series.
- Control options:
- Transcritical operation of gas cooler fans can now be estimated at part load. Transition zone of gas cooler control now also slides fan control approach.
- Pre-release: Limit on potential/available cooling capacity for heat pumps.
- Improvements for water consumption / rainwater tank calculation tool, now respects unit system.
- Rating points UI extended:
- Pre-release: Displaying state points and log(p)-h diagram for most single-refrigerant systems.
v5.3 (Jan-Nov 2023):
Download Pack Calculation Pro – v5.3.10 – (Nov 6th 2023)
- Rating points UI added – now possible to calculate at user-specified part load conditions
- More ejector cycles added:
- Two-stage transcritical ejector with/without parallel compression
- One-stage transcritical ejector with parallel compression
- Now supporting auto-generated generic compressors with fixed efficiency for all cycles, allowing to do rough initial calculations before choosing compressors
- More than 1800 new Dorin compressor polynomials from CD, CDS, H, HEX series
- Many stability and accuracy fixes.. see release notes for more information
- New loading screen
v5.2.5 (May 2022):
- Fix crash during plotting, when heat pump unable to resolve evaporation temperature
- Fix two bugs causing over-estimated power consumption for parallel compressors, especially at low parallel pack capacity
- Fix crash when using free cooling on 64-bit version
- Fix to selecting multiple R1234ze(E) compressors in pack
v5.2 (March 2022):
- Add ‘One-stage transcritical, ejector‘ model
- Add ‘Two-stage Cascade heat pump‘ model
- Frascold: Import 511 new CX and SRC compressors for R134a, R290, R448A, R449A, R513A, R1234ze(E)
- Bitzer: Import 837 new 60 Hz compressors, 365 new 50 Hz compressors, and update 472 existing 50 Hz compressors. CSH/CSW/HHK/HS/OHK/OS families
- Fix: CO(S)P calculation for heat pumps in plots and exports now based on condensing capacity – these were based on evaporator capacity until now. Now COSP values align properly with Average COP in Summary.
v5.1 (August 2021):
- Several instabilities in Cooling Tower calculations fixed, including application crashes in the 64-bit version. Only affects under-dimensioned cooling towers – so simulations that before ran without warnings will still return same results.
- Fixed unit of mWater and VAir coming from calculations, data was in kg/s and m3/s respectively, but is now in kg/h and m3/h to fit with nomenclature. Affects all simulations with cooling tower
- Bug fixes regarding simulation of variable speed parallel compressors
- Improvements to memory usage.
v5.0 (April 2021):
- Long-awaited refrigerants: R32, R448A, R449A, R450A, R513A, R1234yf, R1234ze(E)
- Automatic check for updates, which can help you keep up to date. You still have to download + install yourself though.
- Parallel compression and bypass valve can now operate simultaneously, making these simulations more realistic.
